Rising Stars Profile: Conor Quinn “to find a way” with St Ciaran’s College & Galbally…
Another major final beckons for St. Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley as the Boys Senior football team go in search of All Ireland honours this coming Saturday in Croke Park.
While the ladies endured a disappointing narrow defeat in the Under 20 A Ladies Football All Ireland final just under a week ago, the Boys will hope that recent hard-fought victories in the Ulster McLarnon Cup decider and an extra-time thriller in the semi final will stand to them as they eye a first title in the All Ireland Colleges arena.
St. Ciaran’s team captain and the player set to lead his school out onto GAA Headquarters will be Galbally’s Conor Quinn. As part of our new “Rising Stars” series and People in Focus profiles, we caught up with the Pearses Teenager ahead of this hugely exciting challenge!

Tyrone & GAA Life – My thoughts on…
Where you came from…
Being a part of the Galbally community is great. Everyone knows everyone and everything is based around the community centre. Its not just all about football. Being a part of the club is like being in a huge family, everyone is there for you if needed.
Characters in the Community…
That would have to go to Paul Allen. Always making jokes and smiling even when he’s not trying to!
Former Galbally greats…
Paul Rafferty and Michael Murphy have stood out or me. The way they were able to change the game with one play, which was amazing to watch.
I have been a part of a lot of Galbally teams, some successful and some unlucky not to be. Some of the main players in those teams were Daniel Kerr, Colin Campbell, Caoimhin Quinn and many many more.
St Ciaran’s College…
One of the best decisions I made was choosing to go to St. Ciarans. A very encouraging and supportive school with numerous talented players from my own club and others. Playing with these players from the other clubs was strange and difficult at the start but is now easier, possibly easier than club at times, because I see them nearly every day.
Young players who could feature for Tyrone Seniors in Croke Park one day…
3 young players I expect to play in Croke Park for Tyrone seniors in 5-8 years would be Liam Rafferty, Mark Kavanagh and Niall Kelly
Social Life – My thoughts on…
…places you have travelled to (anywhere in the world) – and best memories & places that really stood out?
I have visited America, Mexico and France before. But the trip I think will be the best experience of my life is my trip to Zambia with the school coming up the 10th of April 2017.
…things you enjoy best about the ‘weekend’ and favourite things to do?
I enjoy going to watch football when I can and going out for food with my friends, plus going to the pool when possible.
…3 big sporting moments that stand out for you and why?
- St Ciaran’s College winning the MacLarnon Cup because we made history
- Tyrone seniors winning Ulster last year because it had been too long since they last won it and
- Tyrone winning the all Ireland for the first time 2003
