St. Macartan’s Ladies Football Club have certainly been enjoying a remarkable season on the playing field and, in this their 25th anniversary year, few would argue that it has been a ‘best ever season’ for the club.

Back-to-back Tyrone Senior League and Championship doubles, in quite emphatic style too, emphasised that point and of course there is then the historic first ever Ulster Ladies Senior Club Championship title success.

But the Club are also still taking time to recognise their roots and on Saturday past welcomed back the players from the first ever team to play from 25 years ago as well as the County championship winning sides of 1994 and 1996.

A large crowd enjoyed the exhibition game as players from up to 25 years ago re-donned the maroon and gold of St. Macs for the occasion, prior to an evening of nostalgia and celebration back at McKenna’s Bar in Augher. There was also the banner which read 42 titles in 25 years of the Club as the Tyrone Senior League Shield, Tyrone Senior Championship ‘Jarlath Kerr Memorial Cup’ and the Ulster Club Cup, as well as the ‘Joline Marlowe Club of the Year Cup’, which the club last won in 2003, were all on display.

All of this came the day after two of their rising young stars in the game, namely Chloe McCaffrey and Niamh McGirr – were presented with the Ladies Young Footballer and Ladies Senior Footballer of the Year awards respectively, at the annual Teamtalkmag Tyrone GAA Gala All-Star Awards Banquet in Bundoran.
